Dumpster Weight Limits and Overfill: Two Different Limits
Compare 1, 1.5 and 2 ton dumpster allowances, learn the difference between excess weight and overfill, and plan a safe load before pickup.
Included weight is not the same as container volume
The 10 yard includes up to 1 ton, the 15 yard up to 1.5 tons, and the 20 yard up to 2 tons. Included disposal weight is a billing allowance, not a statement of the maximum safe load for every material. Container volume and approximate pickup-load comparisons describe space, not weight. Do not use how full it looks to decide how much weight remains.
Dense debris deserves a pre-booking discussion
Flooring and other dense renovation debris can add weight without using much room. Tell us the material type and approximate amount before booking; do not rely on an unverified weight formula. Roofing and demolition-related loads require confirmation. Concrete, bricks and soil are prohibited regardless of the allowance or fill height.
Overfill means material above the top edge
Keep every item at or below the top edge of the container. A sofa or long board sticking above the wall is an overfill concern even if the load is below the included weight. Do not stack extra debris above the sides or leave loose material around the dumpster. A bigger included weight allowance never authorizes a higher fill line.
What if the load is already too high?
Stop loading and call before the scheduled pickup. Describe the protruding items and ask what needs to change before collection. Do not climb onto the load, move the dumpster or assume pickup can proceed as-is. Ask about any applicable charges and how to prepare the load for collection before taking further action.
Ask about charges without assuming a rate
Weight over your size's allowance is subject to additional charges. Ask for the applicable terms before confirming a heavy load; no per-ton overage rate or overfill fee is supplied here. The rental cost guide explains verified base rates and the 10% whole-bill cash discount.
A final loading checklist
Use the material policy and driveway preparation guide alongside this checklist:
- Only load confirmed accepted materials.
- Keep all items at or below the top edge.
- Call about dense or uncertain loads before booking.
- Keep the truck's pickup approach clear.
- Call before pickup if the load, access or schedule has changed.
